Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Camden, NJ - July 11, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (28-44, 2-0) defeated the Camden Riversharks (28-44, 0-2) 2-1 at Campbell's Field on Saturday night. The Bluefish remain unbeaten in the second half of the regular season and have now won four consecutive games overall.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Matt Iannazzo (4-3) was outstanding en route to the victory, tossing seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits. Camden Starting Pitcher Bill Murphy picked up a no-decision, pitching seven innings, giving up one run on two hits, walking three and striking out three.

Bridgeport took the early 1-0 lead off Murphy in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by John Alonso, plating Welington Dotel with the game's first run. Dotel reached base with his league-leading eighth triple of the season, and Alonso brought him home with his 36th run batted in, tops on the ballclub.

Camden answered right back by tying the game at one in the bottom of the fifth inning off Iannazzo on a leadoff solo home run to left field by Daniel Rockett. It was Rockett's sixth big fly of the season and just the third hit overall given up by Iannazzo at that point of the contest.

The Bluefish would take the lead for the second time on the night and never relinquish it in the eighth inning off Camden reliever and losing pitcher Dan Blewett (0-2). Josh Prince led off the frame with a single on the first pitch thrown by Blewett. Prince moved up into scoring position on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Bryant Nelson. Dotel followed with a single, and third base coach John Harris waved home Prince and he crossed the plate safely with the go-ahead run and the Bluefish jumped back in front 2-1. Dotel is second on the team behind Alonso with 35 runs driven home.

The game was now once again in the hands of the Bluefish bullpen, and the same dynamic duo of Steven Ames and Patrick Mincey that finished off the shutout victory last night was once again asked to hold the one-run lead by getting six outs, and that is exactly what they did. Ames retired the side in order in the eighth, striking out two. The right hander has mowed down all six batters he has faced in the series, striking out three in the process. Mincey shut the door with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one. The Bluefish pitching staff has been lights out in the first two games of the series, allowing just one run in 18 innings pitched, walking one and striking out ten. Dotel led the way for Bridgeport with two hits.

The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, July 13th when they welcome in the 2015 First Half Freedom Division Champion Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in the opener of a four game series and a seven game homestand.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
