Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Long Island Ducks 2-1 in Friday night's game at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The difference in the game came on one pitch in the first inning. With Austin Krum on board at first, Prentice Redman roped a hanging slider for a two-run-homerun to deep leftfield.
In his home debut Trevor Reckling (1-1) picked up the victory, his first with Bridgeport. He worked six strong innings giving up just one run on four hits and striking out three.
The two runs that Bridgeport collected came off of Duck starter Nick DeBarr (2-7). He totaled seven innings of five hit, two run baseball; his only mistake coming to Redman in the first inning.
The game ended in dramatic fashion. Jeff Fulchino came into the game looking for back to back saves for Bridgeport. With one out, Long Island catcher, Ramon Castro lined one into the left center gap. In a full out sprint, Austin Krum dove for the baseball and made an amazing catch for the second out. Krum wasn't done. Adam Bailey took a pitch from Fulchino deep into the left field corner only to watch Austin disappear into the corner and come out with the baseball to end the game.
It makes three straight wins over the Ducks in Bridgeport and the 'Fish have now won four of their last five games to move above .500 in the second half of the season (11-10).
The two teams will face each other at 6:05 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets are available at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard Ticket Office, by calling (203) 210-BLUE or visiting www.bridgeportbluefish.com.
