Bluefish Lose Late to Blue Crabs

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 28, 2011) - In a pitchers' duel at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, the Bridgeport Bluefish (25-26) fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (29-23) by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Nick Green served seven innings of shutout baseball for the Blue Crabs, but did not pick up the decision. Steve Palazzo (5-1) gave up one run in the eighth but earned the victory. Jim Ed Warden picked up the save (15) as the righthander tossed a scoreless ninth.

Matt Pike tossed seven innings and surrendered one run for Bridgeport; but the righthander did not pick up the decision. Logan Kensing hurled a scoreless inning. Antonio Alfonseca (2-2) gave up two runs in the ninth and suffered the loss.

Southern Maryland scored the first run in the first inning. Brandon Pinckney doubled to left and advanced to third on a ground ball to the right side. Yunesky Sanchez hit a bloop single to left center to drive in Pinckney to give the Blue Crabs the lead.

Bridgeport scratched out a run in the eighth. Luis Rodriguez singled and Angel Berroa walked to establish runners at first and second. After an Adam Greenberg sacrifice bunt sent the runners up a base, Danny Putnam was intentionally walked. Luis Lopez, hit a sacrifice fly to left to tie the contest at one.

The Blue Crabs were not done though as they scored twice in the ninth. Casey Benjamin and Yunesky Sanchez singled. After an out had been recorded, Christian Lopez chopped a two-run single over the head of Lopez at third to close the scoring.

Luis Lopez' ten game-hitting streak was snapped as the third baseman went 0-3 on the night.

The Bluefish return to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday, June 29 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Bark at the Park is presented by Advanced K9 Detectives.
