Bluefish Defeat Patriots 8-3

Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish (23-24, 54-63) defeated the Somerset Patriots (23-28, 58-63) 8-3 Saturday night from Harbor Yard. These two squads have split the first two games of this three game weekend series.

The Bluefish jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as right fielder Prentice Redman laced a RBI double.

Bridgeport exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. In the inning the Bluefish sent 10 batters to the plate and tallied seven hits. The inning was highlighted by Redman's grand slam (15). Shortstop Eddie Rogers and second baseman Luis Figueroa tallied RBI singles as well.

Third baseman Jeff Nettles committed a fielding error in the sixth inning that allowed another run to cross home plate for the Bluefish which made the score 8-0.

Patriots scored two runs in the top of the seventh frame on designated hitter Jesse Hoorelbeke's two run homer (18) to left field to make the score 8-2.

Somerset added a run in the ninth inning as catcher Adam Donachie hit a RBI single to make the score 8-3 which would be the final.

Doug Arguello suffered his sixth loss of the season as he tossed four innings and gave up a season high 12 hits and seven runs. Jonah Bayliss earned his third win of the year as he threw seven solid innings striking out eight batters while allowing just two runs.

The 2012 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, September 7th when the Patriots return home to take on the Lancaster Barnstormers at 7:05 p.m. The game features a Post-Game Fireworks Show and Diabetes Awareness Night.
