Redman, Bayliss Lead Bluefish to Victory
(Bridgeport, Conn. - Sept. 1, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (23-24, 54-63) defeated the Somerset Patriots (23-28, 58-63) by a score of 8-2 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday. Bridgeport is 7-9 against Somerset this season and trails Southern Maryland by five games in the second half Liberty Division standings.
Bridgeport scored one run in the first inning, six in the fourth frame, and another in the sixth. Prentice Redman doubled in a run to left field in the first inning and followed up with a grand slam to leftcenter in the fourth. His fifteenth homer of the season propelled the Bluefish in picking up three hits including two doubles. The outfielder had six RBI on the night and turned two outfield double plays. Eddie Rogers and Luis Figueroa earned two hits and drove in one runner. Rogers scored three times while Figueroa reached base three times. Luis Lopez earned a multiple hit night for the winning side. Every starter collected at least one hit on the night.
Somerset's offense came from a Jesse Hoorelbeke two run shot to leftcenter in the seventh frame and an Adam Donachie RBI single to left in the ninth inning.
Bluefish starter, Jonah Bayliss (3-7), earned the victory as the righthander delivered seven innings of two run, six hit, one walk and eight strikeout baseball. Julio DePaula tossed a scoreless eighth and allowed one hit and two walks. Jesse English allowed one run on two hits and two walks while fanning two.
Patriots starter, Doug Arguello (6-6), suffered the loss as the southpaw surrendered seven runs on twelve hits and struck out three. Two relievers completed the rest of the game. The tandem gave up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out one in four frames.
The Bluefish finish a weekend series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the Somerset Patriots on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 with the gates opening one hour before first pitch. It is All in Family Fun day with an autograph session and Chet Kids Run The Bases. Bridgeport righthanded pitcher, Matt Pike (2-7, 6.08 ERA) will be opposed by Somerset righthander Justin Cassel (5-9, 3.16 ERA).
