Hickory Crawdads News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws struck late in the bottom of the eighth to steal one from the Hickory Crawdads, 3-2, before 7,008 fans at FirstEnergy Park on Friday night.
The Crawdads (14-8, 50-41) broke through first with two tallies in the top of the third inning against RHP Colin Kleven. 1B Kevin Torres led off the inning with a single, and took second on a ground out by SS Nick Urbanus. After CF Chris Grayson walked and LF Trever Adams singled, 2B Rougned Odor bounced an RBI base hit through the left side of the infield, bringing in Torres for the 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Grayson darted home on a passed ball charged to C Gabriel Lino, making it 2-0.
Lakewood (12-10, 39-52), however, worked it back even against LHP Kevin Matthews with single runs in the third and fourth frames. An RBI single by 3B Maikel Franco got the BlueClaws on the board in the third, before a passed ball charged to C Jorge Alfaro enabled the game-tying run to come home in the fourth, squaring the score at 2-2.
The tie remained intact until Lakewood seized it's first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth against RHP Arlett Mavare (L, 4-5). A pair of one-out walks put two men on for PH Brock Stassi, who placed an RBI single just inside the shallow left-field line, lifting Lakewood to the 3-2 lead.
After BlueClaws LHP Brock Mascarello (W, 3-0) tossed three scoreless innings, RHP Zach Cooper (S, 1) provided a scoreless ninth to close the 3-2 win for Lakewood.
