LAKEWOOD, NJ-Carlos Monasterios threw six shutout innings and came out only because of a rain delay as Lakewood picked up a game on Hickory with a 5-0 win over the Crawdads at FirstEnergy Park.

The BlueClaws (27-25) came into the game six out and with the win are now five behind Hickory (33-21), who lost their fourth consecutive game.

Monasterios (10-10) had lost his previous four starts but became the first BlueClaws pitcher to get to 10 wins this season.

Lakewood got on the board with the help of a new teammate, as Rod Barajas, with the BlueClaws rehabbing a groin strain, singled in Julian Williams in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.

Barajas would go 2-2, adding a 3rd inning double, before coming out after four as scheduled.

Lakewood left the bases loaded in the 3rd but scored in the 5th as Gus Milner reached on an infield single which scored Adrian Cardenas for a 2-0 lead.

The BlueClaws had runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the 6th when the rains came at 8:44, and they were unable to tack on a run after Felipe Garcia relieved starter Matt McSwain after the rain delay ended at 10:35.

Garcia, however, gave up two runs in the 7th, one an RBI single by Tuffy Gosewisch, in for Barajas, and another on a SAC fly by Fidel Hernandez.

Hickory's best chance came in the 8th down 4-0, but Paige Dumont relieved Zack Sterner and got Jared Keel to hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play before Lakewood added a run in the 8th for the final margin.

Game two of the four-game series is Saturday night at 7:05. RHP Edgar Garcia (3-7, 4.61) throws for Lakewood against RHP Mike Crotta (9-5, 4.22).
