PREVIOUS GAME RECAP: The GreenJackets (50-20, 30-23) won the final game of their eight game home stand over the Delmarva Shorebirds (34-33, 25- 27) on Wednesday night with an 8-2 victory. Starter Steven Calicutt recorded the win while Mike McBryde and Brett Pill each drove in two runs to lead the Augusta offense. The GreenJackets broke the game open in the fifth inning by sending 10 batters to plate and scoring five times for an 8-0 lead. Emmanuel Burriss scored the first run from third base on a throwing error from Delmarva catcher Michael Pierce as he tried to throw out Sanders on a steal of second but the throw bounced into center field. Augusta then received RBI base hits from Brett Pill and Henry Gutierrez while Mike McByrde finished off the scoring in the fifth inning with a two-run single for the 8-0 lead.
STARTING IT OFF: Steven Calicutt worked six innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits while walking three and striking out four. Calicutt worked six innings for the first time since April 21, his third start of the season.
RBI MEN: Brett Pill collected his 77th and 78th RBIs of the season Wednesday night. Pill leads the team in RBIs and is ranked second in the Giants organization. Bobby Felmy is second on the team and third in the organization with 74 RBIs.
HIT STREAK: Emmanuel Burriss has hit safely in eight straight games and is batting .419 (13-for-31) over the streak. Burriss has had four straight multi hit games to bump his average up to .324, sixth best in the league over 76 games.
BASE BURGLERS: Augusta had four stolen bases on Wednesday night and now have 188 stolen bases on the season, tops in all of Minor League Baseball. Burriss leads the team with 44 stolen bases and 61 total between Augusta and High-A San Jose, fourth best in all of Minor League Baseball.
TOP TEAM: Augusta still has the highest winning percentage among all full season teams this year. The GreenJackets have a .650 (80-43) winning percentage and the Kinston Indians in the Carolina League are second at .639 (78-44).
CHASE FOR 92: In the 2006 season, Augusta was 78-44 after August 16 on its way to a 92-47 finish. This year the GreenJackets are 80-43. In 2006 Augusta won 18-of-23 to finish the regular season with 92 wins.
ROAD WARRIORS: Augusta has won its last five road games including a sweep of Lake County. The GreenJackets have yet to win six straight road games this season. In 2006 Augusta's season high road win streak was eight games, doing it twice.
PLAYOFF BOUND: Augusta clinched the Southern Division First-Half Title on June 12 assuring themselves a spot in the post season come September.
Tonight's Probables
AUG: RHP Kevin Pucetas (14-3, 1.80) vs. CHA: RHP Eric Hacker (8-2, 2.93)
WHAT'S ON TAP: Right-hander Kevin Pucetas heads to the hill tonight for Augusta looking for his Minor League leading 15th win of the season. Pucetas has won back-to-back starts and has allowed two runs over his past two outings, a span of 10 innings. This season on the road, Pucetas is 5-3 with a 2.79 ERA over 11 games and nine starts. Pucetas leads the ranked first in the Giants organization, in the SAL and eighth in all of Minor League Baseball with a 1.80 ERA over 130.1 innings pitched.
Right-hander Eric Hacker makes the start for Charleston tonight looking for his second consecutive win. This is Hacker's 15th start of the season and the righty is 5-0 over his last 10 starts. Hacker's last loss came on July 15 at home to the GreenJackets. It is Hackers only loss at home this season and he is 5-1 with a 1.99 ERA over eight home games. Hacker began the season with High-A Tampa where he went 3-3 with a 6.10 ERA over 38.1 innings pitched.
Augusta vs Charleston
The GreenJackets are in Charleston, SC for a four game series with the RiverDogs. It is the final time these two teams meet this year and the RiverDogs are three games back of first place in the division. Augusta has had the upper hand in the season series so far going 6-2 against Charleston while outscoring the RiverDogs 44-21. The first meeting between the two teams ended with Augusta sweeping Charleston in a four game series at Lake Olmstead April 13-16. The two teams finished the second half of the season with a four game series in Charleston and the series ended in a split. The GreenJackets have shutout the RiverDogs three times this season while Charleston has blanked Augusta once.
