Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Salisbury, Md.- Brandon Snyder had two hits, including a game-sealing two-RBI triple in the seventh inning as the Delmarva Shorebirds defeated the Lexington Legends 5-2 to snap a three-game losing streak.
The rally in the seventh started with two outs and nobody on, as Danny Figueroa and David Cash put together back-to-back singles. Snyder followed with a shot to right-center field that split the outfielders and rolled to the wall to score both runners and give the Shorebirds a four-run lead. Snyder motored into third with his second three-bagger of the season.
Delmarva's bullpen made the game interesting late, but held on to secure the win for Reid Hamblet (7-3). After Hamblet went three innings in relief, Lexington scored a run in the eighth on a Jhon Florentino single off of reliever Ryan Ouelette to cut the lead to 5-2. A walk to Jimmy Van Ostrand loaded the bases, but Ouelette came back to strike out Koby Clemens swinging to end the threat and preserve the lead. Luis Lebron gave up a hit and a walk in the ninth, but didn't allow a run and picked up his fourth save of the season. Bud Norris pitched well in a losing effort for the Legends. He went six innings and allowed three runs-two earned-on three hits and struck out six.
The Shorebirds got on the board first in the second as Brandon Tripp singled to left with two outs and Miguel Abreu on second. Abreu collided with Clemens right before Abreu was to round third base, and although Abreu was tagged out at home, defensive obstruction was called on Clemens and Abreu was awarded home. Tripp advanced to second on that play, and the next batter Victor Castillo singled to right to score Tripp and give Delmarva a 2-0 lead. Delmarva extended their lead to three in the fifth on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of David Cash, scoring Pedro Florimon from third.
Delmarva sends Kyle Schmidt to the mound for tomorrow's game that starts at 7:05. He will be opposed by left-handed pitcher Doug Arguello for the Legends.
