Pensacola Blue Wahoos News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos will honor local legend and acclaimed Pensacola historian John Appleyard on Sunday, August 25 with a bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,000 fans through the gates at Blue Wahoos Stadium. The giveaway will coincide with Mr. Appleyard's final Sunday radio broadcast of the 2019 season.
Now 96-years-old, Mr. Appleyard founded the Appleyard Agency in Pensacola in 1959 and has established himself as the city's foremost historian in years since, penning over a dozen books on the town. A World War II veteran, Appleyard is a regular contributor to the Pensacola News Journal and the nation's oldest baseball broadcaster, having signed a five-year contract to color commentate Blue Wahoos games in 2018.
Gates will open at 4:00 PM at Blue Wahoos Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 5:05 PM against the Jackson Generals. In addition to the Appleyard Bobblehead, the team will also be giving away 2019 Blue Wahoos Team Photos at the gate thanks to DLUX Printing and Mailing and holding a team autograph session on the concourse from 4:00-4:20 PM.
