Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
The Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Hudson Valley Renegades 2-1 on Saturday night in a tight pitcher's duel.
For the Rocks, it was righty Andry Lara on the mound. In his previous start, Lara had to leave early due to injury against the Greensboro Grasshoppers after only 1.2 innings of work.
Tonight, he was lights out. Lara only allowed three baserunners, going 4.0 innings and allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four and hitting one batter.
Chance Huff would relieve Lara and would cruise through the fifth inning. In the sixth, he would run into some trouble. After surrendering a leadoff walk, Huff would throw a wild pitch which put a runner in scoring position with nobody out.
A ground out would advance the runner to third and he would later score on an error by first baseman TJ White to give the Renegades a 1-0 lead.
In the seventh, the Rocks got a little spark. A leadoff double by Murphy Stehly would get things going and a wild pitch would advance him over to third. With runners on first and third and only one out, Sammy Infante would hit a short fly ball to right field that was deep enough to bring home Stehly to tie the game.
In the top of the ninth, the Renegades would get a leadoff single from Christopher Familia, followed by another single for Spencer Henson to give the Renegades first and second with nobody out. A two out walk would load the bases but Todd Peterson would strikeout Marcos Cabrera to end the inning.
In the tenth, Dannel Diaz and the defense stepped up to hold the Renegades scoreless.
In the bottom half of the tenth, Branden Boissiere would single down the left field line to score Jared McKenzie and walk it off.
The win ends a four-game losing streak for the Rocks. They'll be back at it tomorrow for the series finale with the Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05.
