Blue Rocks Explode for 15 Runs in Win over Keys

FREDERICK, MD - The Wilmington Blue Rocks (6-8) scored 15 runs over the first four innings on their way to a 15-4 win against the Frederick Keys (6-9) on Thursday night. Keys pitchers walked a season-high nine, including walking in three runs.

In the first, Rudy Martin and Khalil Lee walked. Emmanuel Rivera then reached on a fielder's choice, and Martin scored on a bases loaded walk to Chris DeVito. Chase Vallot followed that with a grand slam off of Keys starter Cody Sedlock to make it 5-0 Blue Rocks.

The Keys scored a run in the first. Following three straight singles, Ryan McKenna scored on a wild pitch, but the Keys would strand the bases loaded to keep it a 5-1 game.

Wilmington scored a run on a walk with the bases loaded again in the second. Martin and D.J. Burt singled, and Khalil Lee was hit by a pitch. Rivera then walked to score Martin. The Keys got a run back in the bottom of the second thanks to a Randolph Gassaway single to make it a 6-2 game.

Martin plated two more runs in the third with a triple, before Wilmington added seven in the fourth. Vallot walked with the bases loaded to bring in a run, before Chris Clare made an error to allow another run to score. Kort Peterson followed with a single, and Martin drove in three more runs with a double. The seventh run of the inning scored on a Rivera sacrifice fly to make it 15-2.

The Keys scored in the seventh and the eighth. Jomar Reyes brought in a run on a sacrifice fly, and Preston Palmeiro singled in a run to make it 15-4, but the scoring would stop there.

In the top of the ninth, Keys infielder Collin Woody came in to pitch for the first time in his professional career. He pitched a perfect ninth, which included a strikeout of Vallot.

Sedlock (0-2) took the loss. The right-hander pitched 1.1 innings, and allowed six runs on three hits while walking four and striking out a man. Gerson Garabito (1-1) earned the win, completing five innings and allowing two runs on four hits. He walked five and struck out one.

The Keys and Blue Rocks continue their series on Friday night. Right-hander Lucas Humpal (0-2, 6.75) takes the mound for the Keys. He will be opposed by Blue Rocks right-hander Arnoldo Hernandez (0-0, 3.00).
