Blue Rocks Earn Third Win of Road Trip, Force Rubber Match

Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Salem, VA - Mike Moustakas bombed a two-out three-run homer in a four-run ninth inning to salt a 7-2 Blue Rocks (45-39, 7-8) win over the Salem Red Sox Saturday night. Moustakas' team-leading ninth home run of the year helped him to log four RBIs, lifting his season total to a team-high 50. Starter Rowdy Hardy (3-1) allowed just two runs over seven innings, inducing 13 groundball outs and five one-pitch outs on an efficient night. Southpaw Brandon Sisk tossed struck out four over two perfect innings for his eighth save. It sets up a Sunday rubber match as the Rocks bid for their eighth straight road series win.
Salem took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out RBI hit from Yamaico Navarro. It would be the only Red Sox lead of the night as Hardy retired 13 of the next 15 and the Blue Rocks scored three runs in the third. All nine Blue Rocks in the order batted that inning, with the run-scoring hits coming courtesy of Derrick Robinson, Moustakas and Paulo Orlando.
Anthony Rizzio hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Wilmington pitching retired the next 10 batters in a row to silence Salem. Hardy allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings. He struck out two and walked none.
Poor catching defense helped the Blue Rocks hang four unearned runs on reliever Robert Coello in the ninth. Ryan Eigsti struck out with one away, but a passed ball on Tim Federowicz allowed the Blue Rocks catcher to reach first base. Another passed ball gave Eigsti second and Adrian Ortiz followed with a walk. Robinson flied out to center and that would have been the inning without the first catching mistake. Instead, the runners tagged up and advanced to second and third on the fly-out and with Anthony Seratelli batting, a third passed ball scored an insurance tally to make it 4-2. Seratelli walked before Moustakas iced the game with an impressive three-run shot to right.
Salem starter Eammon Portice (6-4) took the loss. He allowed three runs on five hits in five innings. He walked two, struck out six and issued three wild pitches.
The series concludes at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday evening. Carolina League All-Star Danny Duffy will miss his turn of the rotation. The southpaw will be pitching for the United States in the Futures Game in St. Louis, MO on Sunday instead. In his place, veteran left-hander Ray Liotta (2-2, 4.30) will make a spot start. Salem will send right-hander Seth Garrison (5-7, 4.44) against him.
