THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg smashed out a 12-6 series opening win last night at Winston Salem...The win gave the Hillcats 50 victories on the season and they improved to 22-6 in series openers this year...Tonight is the middle game of a three-game series at Winston-Salem and game two of a seven-game road trip...This Hillcats just ended a stretch of 14 out of 17 at home and went just 6-11 over that time...

VS. WINSTON-SALEM: This season the Hillcats have a 7-4 record against the Dash and are 3-2 in Winston-Salem...They met last weekend for three games in a row with Winston-Salem winning two of those match-ups, including the lone game played at Wake Forest Baseball Park...Lynchburg holds the all-time advantage in the series with Winston-Salem 150-139, but they are 66-76 in the Triad...The Cats and the Dash were both first half champions and have secured a spot in the 2009 Carolina League playoffs...This series completes a stretch of six out of nine games against Winston-Salem...The Hillcats are the only team in the CL with a winning mark against the first half Southern Division champs...

HAPPY TO HIT HERE: 1B Matt Hague hit his fifth home run of the season last night and his third this year at hitter friendly Wake Forest Baseball Park...He hit his first home run of the season in Winston-Salem (game-winning homer in the 10th inning) and his last two big flies (7/2 and last night)...He has homered in the last three games he has played at the home of the Dash...

WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS: RHP Matt McSwain earned his team-leading eighth win of the season last night...In his previous four starts combined he had received just six total runs of support and lost three of those four outings before...McSwain earned the win despite allowing a season-high six runs (five earned) thanks to 12 runs of support...He was pitching in front of around 40 friends and family who came out to watch him pitch...McSwain was born in High Point (about 20 miles from Winston-Salem) and now resides in Sophia (about 30 miles from Winston-Salem)...

A GRAND FIRST TIME: INF Chase d'Arnaud hit his first home run as a Hillcat last night and the second grand slam of the season for Lynchburg to cap off a five run third inning last night and give the Cats a 9-0 lead...It was the first time this season the Hillcats have scored nine runs in the first three innings and it was the first grand slam of d'Arnaud's career...In four games against Winston-Salem he is 7-for-16 (.438) with four doubles, a triple, a grand slam, nine RBI and four runs scored...Since starting 3-for-24 in his first six games with Lynchburg, he has gone 13-for-28 (.464) in his last eight games...

LEGGIN' ‘EM OUT: INF Jose De Los Santos went 3-for-4 last night with a double, two RBI and three runs scored...Since June 1st he is batting .207 (25-for-121) and 15 of his 25 hits have been on the infield...In his last four games he is a combined 9-for-15 (.600) with five infield hits...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Gregory Infante was signed in 2006 by the White Sox out of Venezuela and made his professional debut in 2007 with Rookie level Bristol...That season he went 2-3 with a 4.01 ERA in 10 games (eight starts)...Last season he returned to Bristol and went 4-3 with a 2.66 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) in the Appalachian League before earning a promotion to full-season Low-A Kannapolis where he posted a 1-2 mark with a 6.59 ERA in four games (three starts)...He began this season back in Kannapolis and had a 3-5 record with a 3.26 ERA in 15 starts when he got the call-up to Advanced-A...He made his debut with the Dash last Saturday night at City Stadium...He took a no-decision against Lynchburg, allowing two runs in five innings of work in a game the Hillcats would come back to win 7-4...
