Dunedin Blue Jays News Release

Clearwater, FL. - The season series wrapped up with an extra innings affair in a rainy night at Jack Russell Stadium.

Troy Watson made his first start at the High-A level to fill a spot start in Dunedin. He was solid early with a two strikeout first inning and then working out of a little trouble in the 2nd. The offense gave Watson a two-run lead thanks to a Demi Orimoloye single to bring in Kevin Vicuna and Cullen Large. The Flying Tigers, Jesus Rodriguez seemed on the edge of losing things, but he kept fighting to have a solid 5.1 innings.

Watson started to unravel a little bit in the Flying Tigers 3rd after a string of singles brought home Reece Hampton. Chavez Young kept the lead for Dunedin briefly by throwing out Brock Deathrage trying to take home on a beautiful throw. A Chad Sedio double into right eventually tied things up later in the half inning. Lakeland then jumped on Watson again in the 5th. Another run of singles did the damage for the Flying Tigers this time from Dylan Rosa and A.J. Simcox. Chavez Young picked up his second outfield assist of the day on a scoring play by getting Dylan Rosa after he took a wide turn at second.

Dunedin scrapped back into the game with a run in the 6th after a couple of errors by Lakeland got Demi Orimoloye across the plate to make it 4-3. The Flying Tigers took their run back in the 8th after Emerson Jimenez came on to pitch. After a throwing error to get two runners in scoring position, Reece Hampton popped a sacrifice fly to Cal Stevenson to go back up 5-3. The Blue Jays kept fighting though with two singles coming from the top of the lineup, Chavez Young brought them home with a single right passed second base to get the game tied.

A quiet 9th inning quickly turned into a tough extra innings for the Blue Jays where they saw all nine Flying Tigers come to the plate and score five runs in the inning. Jackson Rees fell to some bad luck with a ball getting away at home plate on a possible fielder's choice, and the inning to a turn for the worst from there. All of the runs in the inning were unearned, but the all count the same, and the Blue Jays didn't have another comeback in the falling 10-6 in the finale.

A battle of first place teams with begin tomorrow in Port Charlotte against the StoneCrabs with first pitch set for 6:30.
