
Blue Jays Acquire INF Brett Wallace in Trade with Orioles

The Toronto Blue Jays today announced that they have acquired INF BRETT WALLACE in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.
Wallace, 27, has played the entire 2014 season with the Norfolk Tides with a .265 average (90-339), 12 doubles, 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 90 games. The slugger led the Tides with 132 total bases and was tied for the team lead with 50 runs scored. Wallace homered in back-to-back games twice with Norfolk this year, May 2-3 vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and May 12 in Indianapolis and May 13 against Louisville.
Wallace was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 42nd round in 2005 but did not sign to attend Arizona State University where he was a two-time Pac-10 Player of the Year and two-time Triple Crown Winner. He was then drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1st round (13th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Blue Jays first acquired Wallace in a trade with Oakland in 2009 and the first baseman hit .301 with 24 doubles, 18 home runs and 61 RBI for Toronto's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas that season. He spent 2011-2013 playing for Oklahoma City (PCL) with 42 doubles and 28 home runs 174 total games.
Wallace also played 311 games with the Houston Astros from 2010-2013 with a .242 average, 52 doubles 29 home runs and 102 RBI.
