Oklahoma City Blue News Release
ORLANDO - The Oklahoma City Blue (8-4) fell to the Long Island Nets (5-7), 121-115, in overtime on Monday morning.
Omer Yurtseven got off to a hot start scoring the Blue's first 11 points of the game. Ryan Woolridge connected on a buzzer-beating floater to give Oklahoma City a 31-23 advantage after one quarter of play. The Blue lead grew to 15 in the second quarter, but a Nets run narrowed that gap to a 57-55 Blue advantage at half. Yurtseven finished the first half with a game-high 22 points.
The third quarter was full of runs from both teams as the Blue knotted the game at 85-apiece heading to the final quarter. In the final frame, the Blue trailed 98-89 until a Phil Booth three sparked an Oklahoma City run that was capped off by Antonius Cleveland knocking down another three to tie the game at 108 with 1:40 left. Buckets by Vincent Edwards and Yurtseven in the final minutes helped send the game to overtime at 113-all. Oklahoma City was then outscored 8-2 in overtime.
"We just didn't do enough right to win the game," Head Coach Grant Gibbs said. "We just didn't execute our fundamentals well enough to win that game, so we have to learn the lesson there, we have to rest and get ready for the next game. We are blessed to have another opportunity to do that."
Oklahoma City shot 94.7 percent from the free throw line as 33 of the Blue's points came from the line. Five Blue players scored in double figures with Yurtseven leading the way with a career-high 34 points on 12-of-18 shooting and a team-best 13 rebounds.
Cleveland and Jaylen Hoard both scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Booth knocked down a team-leading three shots from beyond the arc en route to his 15 points and four rebounds.
CJ Massinburg led the way with 21 as one of seven Nets in double figures. Reggie Perry provided 19 points and 15 rebounds.
The Blue will return to action on Wednesday, March 3, at 6:30 p.m. CT inside The Field House.
