Blue Crabs Win Streak Snapped in 19-5 Loss

(Waldorf, MD) After a pair of rainouts, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs' six game win streak was snapped on Friday evening. The Long Island Ducks bats exploded, defeating the Blue Crabs 19-5.

The Ducks' offense surged in the second inning, plating eight runs against Southern Maryland's starter, Kolton Mahoney. Five walks and four hits were enough to jump on top early.

As Sam Burton came into the game to pitch for the Blue Crabs, the Ducks bats kept firing. The first half Atlantic League North Division champs would plate five more runs across the next two innings, accumulating a 13-0 lead through four innings.

Southern Maryland's offense finally broke through in the bottom half of the fourth ending, plating a pair, including a Michael Baca RBI double to cut into Long Island's big lead, still trailing 13-2.

Despite adding three more runs, the Ducks' lead was ultimately too big to overcome as Long Island came out victorious, winning 19-5. The Blue Crabs, still in a playoff push, will look to rebound tomorrow in game two against the Ducks.
