(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 1-0 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Both pitching staffs were terrific in the game. Mike Bolsinger (1-4) took the loss but allowed just one run in three innings on three hits and a walk while striking out four. Four Ducks relievers combined to throw six scoreless innings, yielding just five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
Sam Burton (2-2) earned the win for the Blue Crabs, pitching six and one-third scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and four walks while striking out four. After one and two-thirds scoreless innings from Endrys Briceno, Mat Latos picked up his sixth save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The game's only run came in the second inning. Cesar Trejo walked, stole second and scored on a one-out RBI single from Dario Pizzano.
The Ducks and Blue Crabs continue their four-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by The Rinx at Hidden Pond Park. It's also a Lucky Seat Saturday, and one lucky fan will win a free trip to Nashville, courtesy of Long Island MacArthur Airport. To be eligible, simply sign up prior to the end of the third inning at the Ducks Ticket Kiosk on the main concourse. Left-hander Darin Downs (0-1, 4.50) takes the mound for the Ducks against Blue Crabs righty Daryl Thompson (4-1, 3.35).
