Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
The Blue Crabs bounced back from their series-ending loss to the Long Island Ducks with a 4-3 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish Monday night at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Bridgeport scored a pair of runs through the first two innings against RHP Connor Robertson, but he went on to earn his sixth win of the season. Robertson struck out six in as many innings of work. Bluefish centerfielder Adam Greenberg led the game off with an infield single, and then scored on a throwing error to third base. An inning later, catcher Luis Rodriguez blasted a solo homer to left-centerfield, his sixth of the year.
The Blue Crabs tied the game in the fourth as first baseman Eric Crozier extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a two run bomb to straightaway centerfield. Designated hitter Matt Craig began the inning with a walk and scored on Crozier's team best 13th homer of the season. Craig then gave the Crabs a 3-2 lead the following inning with an RBI double, scoring centerfielder Jeremy Owens who had a one out triple two batters earlier.
Leftfielder Shaun Cumberland scored the Blue Crabs' final run of the night in the sixth on rightfielder Jamar Hill's RBI triple. Despite his game high eight strikeouts, Bluefish LHP Paul Oseguera (3-3) was pulled after six innings and suffered the loss.
Bridgeport third baseman Luis Lopez made it 4-3 with a leadoff homer in the seventh, but RHP Ryan Speier tossed a scoreless eighth and fellow righty Jim Ed Warden shut the door in the ninth for his 18th save. He is now tied for the league high in saves.
At 54-34, the first place Blue Crabs maintain the best overall record in the Atlantic League, and have the circuit's best second half record at 13-5.
The Blue Crabs will be back in action Tuesday evening, for game two of this four-game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish at Regency Furniture Stadium, the sixth game of this 11-game homestand. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with RHP Denny Stark (5-1, 4.44) on the mound for Bridgeport, against RHP Dan Reichert (10-6, 3.44) for Southern Maryland.
