Blue Bombers Acquire 2007 Grey Cup MVP in Trade with Saskatchewan

WINNIPEG, MB - The Blue Bombers have acquired defensive back James Johnson from the Saskatchewan Roughriders today. Winnipeg sends a conditional pick in the 2011 CFL Draft to Saskatchewan in exchange for Johnson.

Johnson (5-8, 185, Arkansas State '06, DOB: May 5, 1980 in Los Angeles, CA) has spent the last three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Johnson was a West division all-star in 2007 with the Roughriders when he recorded 49 defensive tackles, 12 pass knockdowns, and five interceptions. He continued his stellar regular season play throughout the playoffs and into the Grey Cup. He was a main component of Saskatchewan's victory over Winnipeg, recording three interceptions and MVP honours in the championship game.

Last season, Johnson played in 17 games, recording 39 total tackles and 3 interceptions.

"He's a proven starter in this league. We think with his experience and type of player he is, that he fits the mold that we're looking for," said head coach Mike Kelly.

"We're excited that he decided to join the right side of the Banjo Bowl."
