WINNIPEG, MB - KidSport Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are thrilled to announce that Winnipeg Blue Bomber Gavin Walls has been named the Winnipeg Region Champion Spokesperson for KidSport Winnipeg.
Walls has been a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers since 2005 when he was named the CFL's Rookie of the Year. Since signing with the team, Walls has been a leader both on and off the field and is excited about the chance to give back to the community.
"Since football, and sport in general, has played such an important role in my life and who I am today, in both a professional and personal sense, KidSport is an organization that is especially close to my heart," says Walls.
The chair of the Winnipeg Region KidSport Committee, Angie McCaughan, is looking forward to having Walls act as spokesperson for the charity.
"We're excited about our new partnership with Gavin Walls and the entire Winnipeg Blue Bomber organization," says McCaughan. "Gavin is a great role model and we hope this will help make more kids want to play sports."
On February 27, 2010, Walls will host the Gavin Walls KidSport Football Camp for young athletes who received funding from KidSport Winnipeg to play football.
KidSport is a national charity administered by Sport Manitoba that provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport. KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports.
