
Blowfish Win Fourth Straight

FLORENCE, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish won their fourth straight game in Coastal Plain League action Wednesday night against the Florence Red Wolves 5-4.
The Blowfish got another outstanding pitching performance from Stuart Pound who went six and a third innings giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out six. Pound gave up all three runs in the seventh.
The Blowfish offensive attack gave Pound room to work in the fourth putting four runs on the board. A Joshua Miller RBI double got the scoring started in the fourth. Graham Saiko tacked on another RBI to his stat sheet with a groundout to the pitcher. Tre-Von Johnson then singled in another run followed by a Carson Goldsmith RBI Double to left to end the scoring in the fourth.
Connor Sullivan came on in relief of Pound in the seventh going two thirds of an inning and getting the Blowfish out of a seventh inning jam that had already given the Red Wolves three runs. University of South Carolina pitcher Joshua Knab came on in the eighth giving up two hits while striking out two in his scoreless inning of work. Adam Albers came on in the ninth to get the save and made things interesting giving up one run after loading the bases but he was able to get out of the jam to preserve the Blowfish victory.
The Blowfish return home on Thursday against the Florence Red Wolves in a double header. The double header will begin at 6:05 and tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com
The Columbia Blowfish are In their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats.
