ASHEBORO N.C.- On a humid rainy summer night in Asheboro, the (12-5) second half Columbia Blowfish traveled up north to take on the (12-8) second half Asheboro Copperheads at McCaray Park.
Columbia struck first with two runs in the top of the second with a leadoff single from Blowfish designated hitter Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern), catcher Dylan Kelly (Missouri) singled to center, advancing Shelton to third. Conner Lewis (Lander) followed Kelly with a single to right scoring Shelton. With runners on first and second, Blowfish second baseman, D.C. Arendas (South Carolina) grounded out in a 4-3 fielders choice, advancing both runners. Brandon Burris (Spartanburg Methodist) came up with an RBI opportunity and succeeded singling to right field, scoring Kelly from third.
Asheboro tallied back in the bottom of the second to tie the game up at two apiece. Dalton Rouleau (Hofstra) sent a one out double into left field. Colin Hering (Costal Carolina) singled to the second baseman scoring Rouleau. Hering advanced to second on a throwing error, stole third, and scored off of a passed ball.
The Blowfish added just one more run on the night in the top half of the third.
Asheboro would suffocate the Blowfish for the remainder of the game adding one in the third, one in the fourth, and four runs in the fifth.
