Edenton Steamers News Release

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C - The Edenton Steamers (36-10, 16-9) scored two late runs to hang on for a 3-1 victory over the Morehead City Marlins (21-29, 9-12) on Tuesday night at Big Rock Stadium.

Adam Bray (South Dakota State University) made his sixth start of the season last night. Bray, in the bottom of the first, allowed three straight singles to begin the ball game, including an RBI single by Jacob Hoyle that knocked in Dylan Brown for a 1-0 Marlins lead.

For Bray that was all he gave up, settling down after the first inning and only allowing one more hit through his six innings on the mound. Bray walked one batter and struck out seven earning his fourth win of the season.

For Edenton against Jerry Vasto of the Marlins it took a few innings to get things going offensively. They stranded the bases loaded in the fourth inning and in the fifth inning Chase Harris (University of New Mexico) singled home Alex Delgado (Emmanuel College), who walked earlier to tie the game at 1-1.

In the sixth inning against the Marlins bullpen, with the bases loaded and Jacob Reese (Eastern Illinois University) at the plate, Kyle Weary threw a wild pitch that scored Tyler Eager (Abilene Christian University) from third for a 2-1 Steamer lead.

Edenton added an insurance run in the eighth when Nick Miller (University of Northern Colorado) doubled to begin the inning. He moved to third base on a ground out and came home on Delgado's RBI single for a 3-1 lead.

Rohn Pierce (Canisius College) pitched a scoreless seventh inning followed by Andrew Nelson (St. Catharine College) followed with a scoreless eighth inning and Jake McCoy (College of the Desert) followed with a scoreless ninth to earn his 10th save of the season.

Edenton by virtue of their win over Morehead City and Peninsula splitting a double header with Petersburg yesterday has clinched the top overall seed in the East Division heading into the Petitt Cup Playoffs. Edenton also moved into first place for the second-half East Division race and still up for grabs is the overall seed in the league for the playoffs in August.

Edenton with an off day today will travel to Peninsula on August 1st for a first place showdown with the Pilots at War Memorial Stadium.
