Edenton Steamers News Release

EDENTON, N.C - The Edenton Steamers want to congratulate Nick Thompson on winning the inaugural Edenton Steamers Home Run Derby at Historic Hicks Field.

For the first time in Steamers history Edenton put on a home town home run derby consisting of six Steamer players and up to 10 community participants. Each participant had 10 outs, where any swing counts as an out that does not result in a home run, to see how many times they could clear the wall. At the end of the first round the top two Steamers and the top two community participants move on to the second round.

Another 10 outs were allowed in the second round with your home runs carrying over from round number one. The top two home run hitters then faced off in the championship round to see who would be crowned the inaugural event champion.

Nick Thompson led all hitters at the conclusion of the first round with 10 home runs and Alex Delgado finished hot on his heels, leaving Hicks Field nine times. On the community side Connor Cuff and Daniel Oliver each had three home runs apiece to get into the second round.

In the second round, Thompson smacked another 10 home runs for a total of 20 on the night while Delgado hit three to run his total to 12 on the evening.

Thompson and Delgado moved onto the championship round vs. each other. Delgado led things off with four homers and Thompson followed with six to earn the Steamers home run derby championship. Thompson led all hitters with 24 long balls.

Connor Cuff finished up as the community group champion, smacking three home runs in the opening round and two in the second round for a total of five home runs.
