Blowfish Sneak Past Grizzlies; Win on Walk off Walk

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. -- For the second time in their third matchup, it took 11 innings to decide the game tonight between Lexington County and Gastonia. This time the outcome was different.
In a game where they trailed the entire night, all the Blowfish needed was seven hits to oust the Grizzlies at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Adam Sasser (Georgia) provided two clutch at bats in the ballgame giving the Blowfish their first run in the 6th and then the tying run in the bottom of the 8th.
It wasn't smooth sailing for Lexington County throughout most of the ballgame, they gave up an early run in the top of the third after Katon Harwood (Furman) sailed a throw to first over the head of Sasser allowing Darian Simms (Arkansas) to score.
Lexington County found a way to plate two runs in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead but gave it right back in the top half of the 7th after Sammy Taormina (Liberty) laced a two out double into the right center field alley that scored Simms and Jerremy Howell (Kennesaw State).
The Blowfish stormed back in the 8th after Bennette Hill (North Greenville) singled to right field to start the inning. Marshawn Taylor (Grambling State) came on as a pinch runner and swiped second on a ball in the dirt that could not be corralled by catcher Logan Koch (Francis Marion).
After back-to-back strikeouts of Brett Auckland (Presbyterian) and Adam Yacek (Miami, OH), Sasser lined a single into right and Taylor came around third to score on a play at the plate.
Both teams would cool off until Lexington County loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th and would eventually win on a walk off walk of Derek Olenchuk (Newberry) that plated Clint Carr (Valdosta State).
Hayden Deal (Presbyterian) (1-0) picked up the win for Lexington County while Curtis Wilson (Morehead State) (0-1) was handed the loss.
The Blowfish come back home on Monday night to welcome on in the Savannah Bananas for the second time in just four days. Pregame coverage on z93.1 The Lake begins at 6:50p.m. and first pitch is slated for 7:05p.m.
