Wilmington Sharks News Release

Savannah, GA

Coming into Saturday night, the Wilmington Sharks (5-6) had won just one game on the road this season, losing five. In one of the longer road trips of the season, the Sharks went on the road to defeat the Savannah Bananas (4-4) by a score of 4-3.

An error in the first gave Savannah the lead early, but the Sharks came back in a big way in the third inning. A catcher's interference with the bases loaded tied the game at one. A sacrifice fly tied the game, and Mark Donadio (Fordham) came through with a two out base hit to make it 3-1.

A bloop single and a sacrifice fly tied the game up again in the fifth, but it didn't stay that way long. Matt Meeder (Mercer) drove a two out double down the line to bring a run home, and give the Sharks the lead again. They held that lead the rest of the game, even when the Bananas put two on with one out in the ninth. A sliding catch by Donadio and a groundout ended the game.

The win went to Joe Bialkowski (1-1). He tossed one scoreless inning, with no hits, one walk and one strikeout. Elliot Forde (0-1) took the loss, pitching one inning and surrendering one run on one hit and striking out one. Steven Powels (2) picked up his second save. He threw one inning and allowed one hit and one walk, with no runs.

The Sharks now get two days off. They'll be back home on Tuesday to host Morehead City, during which it'll be Taco Tuesday.
