June 8, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release
FLORENCE, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish took advantage of four Florence Red Wolves errors to win 12-6 Friday night in Coastal Plain League Play. The win snaps the Blowfish five game-losing streak.
The Blowfish capitalized on several defensive miscues by the Red Wolves to score three runs in the top of the first. The Red Wolves then narrowed the gap with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second. The Blowfish answered with two in the second before the Red Wolves tied the game at five in the third.
The Blowfish blew the game open in the fourth scoring four runs to take a 9-5 lead. The Blowfish added a single run in the fifth and added two more runs in the ninth to give themselves a 12-6 lead after the Red Wolves scored a run in the seventh.
Graham Saiko led the Blowfish offensive attack going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored ending his recent offensive struggle. Ryan Gebhardt went 2-5 with two runs scored and Michael Wilson went 2-4 with a run scored.
Casey Cooper started on the mound for the Blowfish going two and a third giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out two. Chase Rhitorchik came on in relief of Cooper and gave the Blowfish a solid outing going two and two third innings giving up no runs on two hits and striking out three. Rhitorchik got the win for the Blowfish on the mound. Griffin Jones, Joshua Knab and Adam Albers also pitched in relief for the Blowfish not allowing the Red Wolves back in the game. Something the Blowfish bullpen has not been very good at in recent days.
The Blowfish return home Saturday June 9 to face the Gastonia Grizzlies at 7:05. The game will be the annual Fort Jackson/United States Army birthday celebration night. Close to 4,000 troops and veterans will be in attendance and fireworks will follow the game. Tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
