
Sharks Bite Marlins, 7-5 in 12 Innings

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks (7-4) outlasted the Morehead City Marlins (3-8) in 12 innings, 7-5 on a perfect night for baseball Friday evening in Morehead City.
The Sharks scored two runs in the top of the 12th inning against position player Drew Woodall (0-1) who walked five and walked in two runs without giving up a hit in his only inning of work.
The Marlins led 4-1 after one inning of play after Geoff DeGroot scored on a single by Chad Shannon and Ryan Cranmer unloaded a three-run home run to left field. Then, each team scored a run in the third inning, when Sam Ott scored on a single by Cranmer.
The Sharks plated two runs in the fourth inning as Cole McInturff drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Aaron Preston lined an RBI-single to make the score 5-4. Then in the fifth inning, the Sharks scored again on an RBI-double by Zach Stephens to tie the game at 5-5.
Nick Bruns (1-0) earned the win, tossing a three scoreless innings in relief and allowing just three hits. Andrew Brockett notched his second save in as many nights shutting the door 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 12th inning.
Raphael Guerrero, Ryan Oglesby and A.J. Goetz combined to throw seven innings out of the bullpen for the Marlins and allowed just one run on one hit. Sam Ott, Sal Annunziata and Cranmer all had multi-hit games while Ott scored twice.
The Marlins are back on the field tomorrow as they hit the road to take on the Edenton Steamers in their first match-up of the season. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
