COLUMBIA, SC- The Columbia Blowfish (9-17) lost 8-5 in heartbreaking fashion to the Peninsula Pilots (16-7).
The Peninsula Pilots scored all 8 runs in the top of the seventh inning when they sent 12 players to the plate and went through 3 Blowfish pitchers (Buckley, Dix, and Bradley).
The Pilots led off the top of the seventh inning was lead off single to center from PJ Higgins (Old Dominion), that was followed by a strikeout and then two consecutive walks, then in a matter of 6 batters the pilots reached on 5 hits and an error from Jake Welch (Bethune-Cookman).
The Blowfish offense started out hot by scoring 3 runs in the opening frame with a lead off double by JD Crowe (Francis Marion), that was followed by 3 consecutive singles from Michael Bell (Georgia), Allen Staton (North Greenville), and Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern).
The Blowfish offense would tack on runs in both the third and sixth innings.
The lone bright spot for the Blowfish was starting pitcher Josh Reagan (South Carolina), who threw 6 innings of shutout baseball, with 3 strikeouts on 75 pitches.
Peninsula now has a 3 game winnings streak against Columbia .
The next home game for the Columbia Blowfish will be against team USA tomorrow night with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
