Blowfish Improve to 3-3 Behind 5-4 Win over Mustangs

MARTINSVILLE, VA - After a 2-3 start to the season, the Columbia Blowfish hit the road for a very important three game road swing north.

With three games in three nights in Martinsville, Petersburg, and Edenton, the Blowfish started things off Monday evening in Martinsville, VA with a contest against the Mustangs.

Robbie Baker (Richmond) got the start on the mound, his first of the year since coming to Columbia. Baker went 7 strong innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 3 while giving up 3 runs.

On offense, Matt Williams (South Carolina) had his best night of the season this far. Williams walked once, scored 2 runs, and drove in 2 runs on a triple to deep right-centerfield.

Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern) pitched in at the dish, going 2 for 4 and driving in a run while scoring one as well.

The Blowfish got out to a 5-0 lead after a four run 4th inning, but Martinsville chipped away and came within a run at 5-4 heading into their final at-bat.

Evan Raynor (Florence-Darlington Tech) came back to close things out after getting the final out of the 8th inning. Raynor got the Mustangs in order, striking out two in a scoreless ninth for his 3rd save of the season.

The Blowfish, now 3-3 on the year, swing over to Petersburg for a tilt against the Generals on Tuesday night before a trip to Edenton on Wednesday evening. The Blowfish play at home at Capital City Stadium on Thursday evening with a 7:05pm first pitch.
