COLUMBIA, S.C.- The (12-9) Columbia Blowfish hosted the (12-6) Asheboro Copperheads at Capital City Stadium Friday night.
The Copperheads started off the scoring in the fourth inning, scoring one run off of two back-to-back singles from Luke Tendler (North Carolina A&T), and Matt Reistetter (Hofstra). Tendler would advance to third off of the single from Reistetter, and score on the 4-to-3 put out, for the first run of the ball game.
The Copperheads would add onto their lead with a leadoff homerun in the top of the seventh from first basemen Colin Herring (Coastal Carolina), his first homerun and RBI of the season. Another run would be added in the top of the night off of a walk, single, and a throwing error by the first baseman Chase Shelton (Charleston Southern).
The Blowfish would fail to score the entire game as starting pitcher for the Copperheads, John Tuttle (Catawba College), who was in command Friday, tossing seven innings, giving up no runs off of four hits, two walks, and seven strike outs. He would be relieved in the eighth by right hander Ryan O'Shea (Chico State), who picked up the save, throwing two innings, no runs, off of two hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Tuttle picked up his fourth win of the season, moving him to (4-0).
The starting pitcher for the Blowfish Friday night was right-hander, Zach Russell-Meyers (Bluefield College), who went on to throw a complete game loss. Russell-Meyers threw all nine innings giving up three runs, off of nine hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Russell-Meyers will move to (3-2) on the season.
The Blowfish are now (12-10) on the season and are sitting in third place of the Western Standings.
The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Monday night June 24th hosting the Florence Red Wolves. First pitch is set for 7:05pm, gates open at 6pm. It's also "Guaranteed Win Night!"
