Sharks Come up Just Short on Friday Night

Wilson, N.C. - The Wilmington Sharks came up just short on the road against the Wilson Tobs on Friday night by a score of 3-2.

John Valek III was the winning pitcher for the Tobs as he went six innings, gave up two runs both earned on six hits and struck out five. Beau Dees went four innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out four for the Sharks.

The Tobs struck first in the bottom of the first inning as Ridge Gonsoulian led off with a single and eventually scored on a Seth Neely RBI single to give the Tobs a 1-0 lead.

The Sharks came back in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead as Tyler Slaton picked up a RBI single to tie up the game. The next hitter for the Sharks TJ Losby grounded out to second, but was able to score Zach Houchins to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Tobs tied up the game on a RBI double off the bat of Logan Regnier to tie the game 2-2.

The Tobs picked up the go ahead run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a throwing error from the Sharks catcher John Fidanza as he was trying to throw out Neely stealing second, the throw skipped into center field and allowed Jimmy Luppens to score from third to give the Tobs a 3-2 lead.

The Sharks were unable to pick up runs in the last four innings of the game and had runners on first and second in the ninth, but Jon Fitzsimmons shut down the Sharks and picked up his second save of the year.

Tyler Slaton, Alex Freedman, and Zach Stephens all picked up two hits for the Sharks in the game. For Wilson, Logan Regnier went 3-4 with a double and an RBI.

The Sharks return back home Saturday night to take on the Wilson Tobs with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
