Blowfish Drop Second Half Opener

The Fayetteville SwampDogs posted four runs in the first en route to an 8-7 victory over the Columbia Blowfish on Friday night. The game was the first of the second half of the season; the SwampDogs won the Coastal Plain League South division for the first half.

The SwampDogs (17-11, 1-0) jumped on starter Blowfish (9-20, 0-1) starter Blake Forslund for four runs in the first. Forslund lasted three innings, surrendering six runs on six hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.

The Blowfish stormed back with four runs in the seventh inning to make it a one run game but couldn't get the tying run in as they dropped the first game of the second half of the season and finished their six game road trip at 2-4.

The Blowfish host Fayetteville for the back end of the home-and-home series Saturday night for the first of three Independence Weekend fireworks games. On Sunday the University of South Carolina Gamecock Alumni come to Capital City Stadium for the fifth annual Gamefish trophy matchup. The Blowfish lead the series 3-1 and look to continue their success on Sunday.

The Columbia Blowfish are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 15th season in 2011, the CPL features 15 teams playing in South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 44 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
