DES MOINES - The Green Bay Blizzard (4-4) won, 57-41, over the Iowa Barnstormers (1-7) at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Saturday, May 20.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth fight. Barnstormers quarterback Zach Reader found wide receiver Keshaun Taylor for a nine-yard touchdown. Kicker Gabriel Rui nailed the extra point to make it 7-0. The Blizzard wasted no time as quarterback Maxwell Meylor connected with wide receiver Shaquan Curenton and kicker Logan Justus had a successful kick, 7-7. After a missed field goal by Gabriel Rui, Blizzard Meylor found wide receiver Marquise Irvin, 14-7. Reader then found Taylor again in the endzone and made the game 14-14.
The fight continued with Blizzard running back Terrence Smith charging into the endzone. The extra point was unsuccessful, 20-14. Reader and Taylor were able to connect for the third time. Rui's extra point was no good, 20-20. Blizzard quarterback Meylor then threw a shuffle pass to wide receiver Mike Green Jr., PAT was successful, 27-20. Blizzard piled on the points with a Meylor rushing touchdown, 34-20. Barnstormers responded with a touchdown reception from wide receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez, 34-27.
The Blizzard offense opened the second half with a Meylor rushing touchdown, 41-27. After a Barnstormers turnover, The Blizzard extended their lead with another Meylor rushing touchdown, 48-27. Barnstormers wide receiver Keshaun Taylor continued his stellar night and caught his fourth touchdown, PAT was no good, 48-33. Gabriel Rui then scored a deuce cutting the score to 48-35.
The fourth quarter started slow and ended slow. Blizzard kicker Logan Justus nailed a field goal to make the score 51-35. The Blizzard kept piling on with a dart from Meylor that connected with Curenton, PAT was no good, 57-35. The Barnstormers wouldn't go down without a fight, Reader found wide receiver Caleb Smith to cut the Blizzard lead. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, 57-41.
