Blazers Win 3-0 over Americans

The Kamloops Blazers got two goals in the first period and some good goaltending in the final few minutes to beat the Tri-City Americans 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Blazers got off to a good start on a goal by Matt Needham off the rush. Deven Sideroff put a shot off Needham's skate that squeaked through goaltender Eric Comrie to make it 1-0 for the Blazers 1:38 into the game.

Cole Ully made it 2-0 for the Blazers midway through the first period. His centering pass went off the skate of Riley Hillis on the power play.

The Blazers had a solid first period as they outshot the Americans 17-5.

Eric Comrie showed why he was one of Canada's goaltenders at the World Junior Championships in the second period. He made some terrific saves for the Americans to keep the game 2-0 for the Blazers through two periods.

Collin Shirley gave the Blazers some insurance 2:43 into the third period. Marc McNulty went hard to the net and gave Shirley time to score his 18th goal of the season to make it a 3-0 Blazers lead.

The Americans did not have a lot of pressure on the Blazers until late in the game.

Eric Comrie was pulled with 4:33 to go and had a ton of pressure in the Blazers zone. Goaltender Connor Ingram was outstanding in the final few minutes making some terrific saves to preserve the shutout in a 3-0 win.

The Americans were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Blazers finished 0-for-5.

The Blazers will play two home games this weekend as they host the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday, February 13th and the Victoria Royals on Saturday, February 14th.
