Tyler Benson scored the winning goal at 15:18 of the third period as the Vancouver Giants won a back-and-forth affair by a score of 5-4 over the visiting Seattle Thunderbirds on Monday afternoon at Pacific Coliseum. The G-Men also got goals from Jackson Houck, Jakob Stukel, Jesse Roach and Zane Jones.

The Giants controlled the play in the first 20 minutes, outshooting Seattle 16-5, but Thunderbirds net minder Logan Flodell turned aside everything he saw to keep the game scoreless after one stanza.

Lane Pederson gave Seattle the lead before the midway mark of the second period when he scored off the rush, beating Giants goalie Cody Porter from the left wing. Houck responded for Vancouver when he picked off an errant pass in front of the Thunderbirds goal and scored his 17th of the season to even the score. Stukel put Vancouver ahead in the final minute of the frame, tucking the puck past Flodell after a beautiful move out of the right corner.

The third period was a back and forth one as Smith pulled Seattle back into a tie game with a power play goal just 40 seconds into the third period before Roach netted his sixth of the year at 5:44 to restore Vancouver's lead. Cory Millette evened the score again for Seattle when he chipped a rebound past Porter on a power play, but once again Vancouver retook the lead when Jones scored less than two minutes later. The Thunderbirds wouldn't go away though as Ryan Gropp made it 4-4 before Benson netted his winner, scoring on a breakaway to give Vancouver the two points.

The Giants will be back in action at the Pacific Coliseum on Wednesday, February 11th when the defending Memorial Cup Champion Edmonton Oil Kings pay a visit. Face-off is set for 7:00pm. For tickets, visit VancouverGiants.com or call 604-4-GIANTS (604-444-2687).
