Oklahoma City Blazers News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City Blazers of the Central Hockey League signed goaltender Sebastien Centomo, Blazers head coach Doug Sauter announced today.
Centomo, a 6-1, 196-pound native of Laval, Quebec skated last season with the Las Vegas Wranglers and Long Beach Ice Dogs of the ECHL. He appeared in 40 games, registering a 19-16-5 mark, 2.53 goals against average and .925 saves percentage.
The 24-year old Centomo began his professional career with the Memphis RiverKings in 2001. In 19 games with the Kings, he recorded a 16-1-0 mark, 2.09 goals against average and .934 saves percentage en route to CHL Rookie of the Year honors. That season continued to be memorable for Centomo as he also played 25 games with the St. John's Maple Leafs, the American Hockey League affiliate for the Toronto Maple Leafs, producing a 12-7-4 mark, 2.52 goals against average and .926 saves percentage. Centomo also saw action in one game for Toronto that season, allowing three goals in 40 minutes of play.
For his five-year career, Centomo has posted a 70-51-17 mark, a 2.80 goals against average, .915 saves percentage and nine shutouts. In 83 AHL games, he has a 32-34-9 mark, 3.12 goals against average, .905 saves percentage and four shutouts.
"I was counting on a goaltender of his caliber becoming available," said Sauter. "I feel like he will be a large piece of the puzzle to bring a championship to Oklahoma City. He has been skating in Europe for close to three weeks, so I know he is in top physical condition. The goaltending tandem of Connors and Centomo certainly gives us a strong presence in goal. Our defense is young and we need a strong goaltending tandem to support them."
The addition of the Centomo brings the total number of players signed to 14. He joins defensemen Tyler Fleck, Jason Goulet, Troy Johnston, Shawn Germain, Tyler Kuntz and Joe Dustin and forwards Jared Dumba, Garrett Prosofsky, Kahlil Thomas, Marty Standish, Michel Beausoleil, and Ryan Johnston as well as goaltender Sean Connors on the Blazers roster.
The Oklahoma City Blazers open training camp on Monday, October 10 at the Blazers Ice Centre at 9:30 a.m. The team's first game is October 21 at the Ford Center against the Fort Worth Brahmas.
NOTE: The Oklahoma City Blazers acquired the rights to forward Joey Bastien from the Fort Worth Brahmas for future considerations. Bastien will attend the Blazers training camp.
