RiverKings will be popping up all over this weekend

MEMPHIS/NORTH MISSISSIPPI-The Memphis RiverKings are shifting into high gear with the 2005-2006 season close at hand, participating in and hosting five events this weekend.

On Friday morning, RiverKings players Stephen Margeson and Ken Goetz will be at Horn Lake Intermediate School at 8 a.m. as part of the Sticks Are For Kids program. This program provides two players coach to students on how to use floor hockey equipment and allows the teacher to keep the equipment for 2-6 weeks for use in his or her Physical Education program.

Saturday will be a full day for the RiverKings, beginning with the American Heart Association 5K walk in Hernando from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The RiverKings will also participate in FallFest on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic church in Southaven.

FallFest will feature entertainment, food, games, activities (from hayrides and a "Hot Lips" booth to a fishing rodeo), and opportunities for community service. RiverKings mascots will be present from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and players, from noon until 2 p.m. The team will also bring the Cellular South Slapshot inflatable game.

The RiverKings will host National Anthem Auditions at the DeSoto Civic Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in conference rooms 3 and 4. Up to 32 vocalists will be selected to sing the national anthem before every RiverKings home game.

The RiverKings will also participate in the Buddy Walk benefiting the Down Syndrome Association at Botanic Gardens in Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. and will bring along the Cellular South Slapshot inflatable. More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the walk.
