Blazers Daryl Veltman is NLL Rookie of the Week

BOSTON (January 23, 2009) - The Boston Blazers and the National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced today that Boston Blazers rookie forward Daryl Veltman has been named the NLL Rookie of the Week for the week of January 12, 2009. Veltman, who was the first selection overall in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft by the Blazers, scored a team-high four goals including two power play goals in the team's 13-9 home opening loss against the New York Titans on Saturday night. Veltman and Blazers forward Brenden Thenhaus are tied with a team-high 13 points over the Blazers' first two games with Veltman leading the squad with eight assists.

"Daryl really looked comfortable against the Titans," said Boston Blazers Head Coach and General Manager Tom Ryan. "He is a natural goal scorer and an integral part of our offense."

Veltman, a 6 foot, 200 pound forward from Hobart College, led the Eastern College Athletic Conference in scoring during his senior campaign in 2008 with 26 goals earning All-American Honorable Mention honors.

The Boston Blazers dropped its second straight game to the New York Titans on Saturday night to fall to 0-2 on the season and will face-off against the Philadelphia Wings in a weekend home-and-home-series. The Blazers battle the Wings on Friday, January 23, in the "City of Brotherly Love" and return home to face the Wings at the TD Banknorth Garden the following night, Saturday January 24, at 7:30 p.m.
