Baltimore, MD - The Blast could not complete a second half comeback against rival Harrisburg Heat, as they recorded their sixth loss of the season.
Both teams entered the game keeping possession and waiting for the perfect chance to strike. The Heat would get on the board first through Daniel Villela's ninth goal of the season. Debutant goalkeeper Mike Zierhoffer was kept busy later in the quarter, as he recorded three saves from shots within his own goalie box. The Blast created several chances but could not strike back as they entered the second quarter trailing 1-0.
Heat goalkeeper William Banahene denied the Blast a quick goal at the beginning of the quarter, as he slid across his box to deny a wide-open Jon Orlando. Both teams created multiple chances but could not find another goal for the rest of the second quarter. Elton de Oliveira hit the crossbar on a set-piece play that could have put the Blast on the board. The Blast entered the half time break with a 1-0 deficit.
The Heat came out of the break on fire, hitting both sides of the posts on shots. Midway through the third quarter, the Heat extended their lead to 2-0 with Ricardo Carvalho's 29th goal of the season. Tom Mellor would add to the Heat's lead with his eighth goal of the season. The Blast would respond with their first goal fourteen seconds later, courtesy of Elton de Oliveira. A pair of blue cards from both teams had both teams playing a man-down to close out the third quarter. The Blast would enter the fourth quarter with a 3-1 deficit.
Andrew Hoxie would score a powerplay goal seconds into the fourth quarter to cut the Heat lead to 3-2. Jonatas Melo would enter the game as a sixth attacker with under two minutes to play. The Blast would eventually find an equalizer with 58 seconds to play through Daniel Oliveira. The game would need another period to decide a winner as both teams headed into overtime tied 3-3. It took only 58 seconds for Tavoy Morgan to net the winner, with an incredible half-volley, as the Blast fell to the Heat 4-3.
Daniel Oliveira led the Blast in scoring with two points, including the game-tying goal with under a minute to play. On his debut, Mike Zierhoffer collected thirteen saves in the losing effort. The Blast are back in action tomorrow afternoon on Sunday March 31st at 2:00 p.m. ET against division rival Utica City FC at the Adirondack Bank Center.
