San Diego Sockers Match Notes at Tacoma

San Diego Sockers News Release


The Tacoma Stars (10-10) and the San Diego Sockers (19-1) will wrap up their season series Sunday Evening at the accesso ShoWare Center. San Diego has a 3-1 series lead so far this season. The Sockers only loss through their first 20 games is a 5-4 defeat by the Stars on De- cember 22 in San Diego. The Sockers have won 17 straight since that loss.

San Diego, aside from having the MASL's best record, is also 10-0 on the road this season and has a league tops +86 goal differential. The Stars enter the game having dropped their last match to the Ontario Fury 5-4 in a shootout on March 15. The Stars sit in second place in the Pacific Division just a half-game ahead of Ontario for the division's second playoff spot.

Former U.S. Men's National team and MLS star Landon Donovan is scheduled to take the field for the Sockers Sunday. The Stars will counter with former Seattle Sounders FC star Lamar Neagle in a highly anticipated Fan Appreciation Night in Kent. In 5 games for San Diego Do- novan has 12 points (4G-8A) and one game-winning goal. The Sockers are led in scoring by Brandon Escoto's 46 points (26G-20A).

Tacoma is paced offensively by Nick Perera whose 63 points (28G-35A) is also the league's best. His 35 assists also sets the league high-mark in that category. One of the hottest offen- sive players for Tacoma is Mike Ramos, who is second on the team with 35 points (23G-12A).

Philip Lund (19 points), Joey Gjertsen (18 points), and Pablo Da Silva (16 points) round out Tacoma's top scorers.

Having announced his retirement at the end of this season, tonight will be Gjertsen's final regular season home game for the Stars.

The Stars are a 1/2 game ahead of Ontario with a game in hand for the Pacific Division's second playoff spot.

After tonight, Tacoma will have 3 road games left to close out the sea- son.

San Diego

The Sockers enter the match with the MASL's best record and on a 17 game winning streak. Their only loss of the season was a 5-4 defeat to the Stars in San Diego on December 22. San Diego is 10-0 on the road this season and their +86 goal differential is a league best.
