Blast fall to Harrisburg 6-5 in a Shootout

Led by 2 goals each from Donatelli and Melo

The Blast's 4-game winning streak comes to an end as they fall in a shootout to the Heat, 6-5 in Harrisburg. Hugo Silva stopped both Blast shootout attempts as the Heat won the shootout 2-0. Tony Donatelli and Jonatas Melo each scored two goals for the Blast in the loss.

Harrisburg scored the first two goals in the game. Lucio Gonzaga and Danny Diprima would score to give the Heat a 2-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The Blast would score two straight goals of their own to tie the game at 2 with goals from Tony Donatelli and Jonatas Melo. Harrisburg would answer one minute later to regain the lead on an Elmo Neto goal. That would be the only scoring in the half, as the Heat took a 3-2 lead at halftime.

The teams would trade goals in the 3rd quarter. Harrisburg scored first on a goal by Brad Kerstetter to take a 2-goal lead. Baltimore would answer with Melo's second goal of the game late in the quarter. Donatelli would get his second goal of the game two minutes into the fourth quarter to tie the game once again. Harrisburg scored on a goal by Thiago Freitas with just under 6 minutes left to regain the lead but Lucas Roque would score for the Blast to send the game to overtime. Neither team could score in the overtime period, and the game would go to a best of 3 shootout with the score tied 5-5. Gonzaga and Freitas scored in the shootout for the Heat, and goalie Hugo Silva stopped both Blast attempts to win the game for Harrisburg.

Harrisburg goalkeeper Silva made 10 saves on the game while Freitas led the offense with three points (one goal, 2 assists). Donatelli led the Blast with 3 points (2 goals, one assist). This is Donatelli's fifth straight game with a goal.

The Blast are off next week, and will return to action with games on December 30th and December 31st. The Blast will be in Kansas City on Saturday, the 30th at 8:05 p.m. to take on the Comets and in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, the 31st at 4:05 p.m. to play the Rampage. Both games can be streamed at MASL.tv or on the MASL app.
