The Blast hosted the Waza Flo on Saturday night in an Eastern Division matchup against. In the second matchup of the season between the two teams the Blast were again victorious. The Blast defeated the Waza Flo 9-3 to remain undefeated at the halfway point of the season.
The opening goal was scored by Leonardo de Oliveira of the Waza Flo. The Blast would answer when Andrew Hoxie scored his 10th goal of the season assisted by Kaoru Forbess to tie the game at 1. In a physical game the Blast defense held the Waza Flo to only 2 shots in the opening period. At the end of the first the game was tied 1-1.
The Blast continued to play solid defensively during the second quarter. Juan Pereira was able to give the Blast the lead at the 1:32 mark off an assist from Tony Donatelli for the only goal in the quarter. Blast goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 3 saves in the half and the Blast went into the locker room leading 2-1.
The Blast started the scoring in the second half when Vini Dantas recorded a goal in his 10th straight game. This was Dantas' team leading 16th goal of the season and Kaoru Forbess recorded his second assist of the game. Only 13 seconds later the Waza Flo would cut the lead back to one with a goal from Ney Almeida. After a penalty on the Waza Flo Vini Dantas would convert the penalty shot for his second goal of the game. At the 8:14 mark Vini Dantas would strike again to complete the hat trick with his third consecutive goal putting the Blast up 5-2. With 4 minutes left in the quarter Vini Dantas struck again for his 4th goal of the evening and bringing his season total to 19. Tony Donatelli recorded his 9th assist of the season which leads the team. The Blast entered the final quarter leading 6-2.
The Blast continued to add to their lead during the final quarter. Lucas Roque recorded his 7th goal of the season off of Tony Donatelli's 3rd assist of the game and then Donatelli scored a goal of his own on a Blast power play assisted by Vini Dantas. The Waza Flo would add a late goal but Adriano Dos Santos would score an empty net goal to seal the Blast victory.The final score was Blast 9 Waza Flo 3.
The Blast move to 10-0 on the season. The Blast were lead offensively by Vini Dantas who recorded 4 goals and added an assist. Tony Donatelli contributed 3 assists and added a goal. Defensively, Pat Healey recorded 3 blocks while goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 12 saves in the victory. The Blast will return home tomorrow night Saturday, January 9th, to take on the Harrisburg Heat. Kickoff is at 7:35p.m. from the Royal Farms Arena.
