Blast and Franklin Square Hospital Center to Host Breast Cancer Awareness Night

Baltimore - The Baltimore Blast has teamed up with Franklin Square Hospital Center to present Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Sunday, February 20. The Blast will host the Milwaukee Wave at 5:05 p.m. and Franklin Square will host pre-game activities including exhibits, games, prizes and the opportunity to speak with breast health physicians and nurses beginning at 3 p.m.

"Many of us at the Blast have been touched by breast cancer and we know how important it is to join the fight and do whatever we can to lend support and encouragement to survivors, patients and their loved ones," said Blast owner Ed Hale, . "We are proud to join forces with Franklin Square Hospital Center in the fight against breast cancer."

The Blast will take the field wearing special one-night-only pink jerseys. Blast fans all over the world can show their support by bidding for the unique game-worn jerseys in a seven-day online auction. All proceeds from the jersey auction and ticket promotion will support the Franklin Square Hospital Center Bosom Buddies Fund. This fund supports Franklin Square Breast Center patients with items such as transport services to treatment, medical supplies not covered by insurance, housekeeping services when patients are too ill and housing costs. In addition, discounted tickets to Breast Cancer Awareness Night are available through the Blast office for just $16.

"One in eight women will experience breast cancer in their lifetime, and it often affects not just the woman, but the entire family," said Kristen Fernandez, MD, breast surgeon and director of the Breast Center at Franklin Square. "We're pleased for this great opportunity to join forces with the Baltimore Blast to promote awareness of breast cancer and breast health in the community. And we'll be honored to have some of our breast cancer survivors and their families joining us for the event."
