Kansas City Comets News Release

Next Game: The Comets next game is this Sunday, Feb. 20th at the Independence Events Center against the Chicago Riot at 3:10 p.m. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these two teams, with the Riot leading the series 2-1. The Comets will be having a special "Kick It for the Cure" night at the IEC on Sunday in which the players will be wearing special, pink jerseys to promote breast cancer awareness. The jerseys will then be auctioned-off following the game with partial proceeds benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In the spirit of the event, Bolero Salon & Spa will be giving each woman who attends Sunday's game a certificate for a free haircut.

Last Game: The Comets last played on Sunday, Feb. 6th in Chicago and lost a back-and-forth game with the Riot, 16-12. Byron Alvarez led the way for the Comets with two goals and an assist.

Retro Night Replica Jersey Auction Raises $5,000 for the Dalton Foundation: Comets' Retro Night was on Friday, Jan. 28th in front of a near-sellout crowd. The team wore replica jerseys from the 1981-1982 inaugural Comets season, and then auctioned-off the jerseys immediately following the game. Proceeds from the retro jersey auction, plus the honorary coaching spots auctioned for the halftime Reunion Game, totaling $5,000, benefitted the Dalton Burner Foundation. Dalton is a 6-year-old Blue Springs youngster who is fighting his second battle with cancer in less than a year. The team has announced that there will be a check presentation to Dalton and the Foundation on the field during Sunday's game against Chicago.

Training Schedule: The team resumes practice today through Thursday at the KC Soccer Dome from 9:00-11:30 a.m. On Friday, KMBC-TV will be doing a feature story on the Comets for their morning news program, so practice will run from 6:30a-9a, also at the Dome.

Comets Partner with Citizens Bank: The Comets have announced a three-year partnership agreement with Citizens Bank and Trust. The agreement brings Citizens Bank and Trust front and center with one of Kansas City's most electrifying sports franchises. As the official sponsor of the Comets, the Citizens Bank and Trust logo will be displayed prominently on the team's home and away jerseys, as well as on the Comets' MISL field at the Independence Events Center. Another major component to the partnership is CB&T's sponsorship of Comets' goalkeeper, Danny Waltman, and his "Danny Saves" program which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas City. For every save Danny makes for the remainder of the 2010-2011 season, as well as the 2011-2012 & 2012-2013 seasons, Citizens Bank and Trust will donate $5 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas City.

Comets Leaders: Despite not playing for eight days, Byron Alvarez remains the MISL scoring leader with 54 points. Forward Jamar Beasley (41 points), remains as the #5 scoring leader. Comets' Leo Gibson is 2nd in the league for most 3-point goals with 4, just one 3-pointer behind league-leader Chili Farias. The Comets as a team lead the league in 3-point goals, with eleven.
