Blast Adds Veteran Forward
November 23, 2011 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore - Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the team has signed veteran forward Shaun David, pending league approval. The Blast is 2-1 after losing their season opener then bouncing back for back-to-back road wins last weekend. The team will play this Saturday afternoon in Rochester and Sunday afternoon in Syracuse.
David, a 5-6 forward who started his career with the Dallas Sidekicks in 2003-04, is a journeyman who has also played indoor soccer for the St. Louis Steamers, New Jersey Ironmen, Monterrey La RaZa and Omaha Vipers. He was named to the MISL All-Rookie team in 2004 and went on to be an All-MISL Selection after the 2005-06 season with the St. Louis Steamers. David and the Steamers advanced to the 2006 MISL Championship but lost to the Blast when Baltimore's Machel Millwood scored a sudden-death golden goal for the win. After sitting out the 2006-07 season he was the first player to sign with the expansion New Jersey Ironmen for the 2007-08 season. Following his stint in New Jersey, David joined La RaZa where he recorded 18 regular-season points en route to the 2010 MISL Championship with Monterrey. He recorded eight points (three goals and two assists) in nine games last season for the Vipers.
"I am very pleased to be able to bring in a player like Shaun," said Blast head coach Danny Kelly. "His pace, experience and versatility will make us a better team immediately."
In other Blast news, forward Lucio Gonzaga underwent surgery Monday to repair the ACL in his right knee. Gonzaga, who has been placed on the MISL's inactive injured list, has recorded 42 goals and 13 assists for 105 points in three previous seasons with the Blast.
The Blast is back on the road this weekend, with their first game against the Rochester Lancers on Saturday and the chance to avenge an opening-night loss to Syracuse on Sunday. Both games will be available live via webcast at www.baltimoreblast.com and www.MISLlivesoccer.com .
