Today Thomas BuddyBlair made his first step up the baseball ladder, as he is now a member of the Peoria Chiefs. He started his first game for the Chiefs Wednesday against the Beloit Snappers, pitching eight innings of one-run ball. In his six hit performance, Buddy Blair posted five strikeouts along with one free pass. The Peoria Chiefs are trying to make a push for the playoffs in the Midwest League. With a 23-17 record in the second half, they trail the aforementioned Snappers by 2.5 games in the Midwest Western Division.

This season, Blair (1-2) appeared in eight games and posted a 3.58 ERA for the New Jersey Cardinals. He struck out an average of four batters per outing, while walking just over one per contest. Blair is the third 2003 Cardinals pitcher to be called up to Peoria. Bob Runyon and Rich Scalamandre are already members of the Chiefs staff.

New Jersey Cardinals hitting coach Dan Ontiveros returns to his post as southern California scout this week. Replacing him will be current St. Louis Cardinals roving hitting instructor, Tom Spencer. In his first season within the Cardinals organization, Spencer has managed the AAA Memphis Redbirds and served as the Cardinalsminor league outfield and baserunning instructor.

New Jersey returns home August 4th from a five-game road trip to Williamsport and Aberdeen. Mondays game will begin at 7:15 PM with the gates to open at 6 PM. An exciting promotion, batting helmet giveaway, highlights the game between the New Jersey Cardinals and the Hudson Valley Renegades. The giveaway is being presented by of Reds Deli, InterNet Café, Cunico Chiropractic, Daily Record, Hainesville Sporting Goods, and Miller Lite.
