
Oneonta Pulls away from Expos Late

BURLINGTON, VT --- Bo Flowers' two-run single and Nick McIntyre's two-run double snapped a 3-3 tie as the Oneonta Tigers scored four unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning and went on to a 10-5 victory over the Vermont Expos in New York-Penn League action Thursday night at Centennial Field.
Kelly Hunt reached on an error by shortstop Ja'mar Clanton to open the eighth inning. After a strikeout, walk, foul out and hit batter, Flowers singled through the hole at short to give the Tigers a 5-3 lead. McIntyre followed with a double to rightcenter to score two more runs.
Vermont, which had tied the game 3-3 in the seventh inning on a two-run homer from Kory Casto, scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth to get within two at 7-5 on a RBI single from Clanton and RBI double from Jason Tuttle.
But Oneonta came back in the ninth with three more unearned runs on a two-out, two-run single from Vince Blue and a passed ball after another fielding error by Clanton had leadoff the inning.
The game started off as a pitching duel between starters Jeremy Plexico of Vermont and Jordan Tata of Oneonta. Plexico allowed no runs on three hits over the first five innings. while Jordan gave up four hits and just a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
But after the Expos had taken the 1-0 lead in the fifth, Oneonta got two runs in the sixth off Plexico on RBI singles from Hunt and Jake Ford. The Tigers added another run off Plexico in the seventh on a Vince Blue leadoff triple and RBI single from McIntyre.
McIntyre was 3-for-6 with three RBI, while Blue was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for Oneonta (28-14). Daniel Spring (3-2) picked up the win in relief, despite allowing four runs on three hits in 1.2 innings.
Tuttle was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Expos (8-35), while extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Casto's two-run homer was his third home run of the season, while Little (0-3) was charged with all seven unearned runs on four hits, three walks and one hit batman in 2.2 innings.
The teams will play the rubber game of their three-game series on Friday night with Devin Perrin (1-2), just off the disabled list, making his first start for the Expos since July 12th. It is Big League Haircutters "Turn Back The Clock Night" at Centennial Field as their will be a 1950's flavor at the ballpark on Friday.
